I have met parents who thought that they were never going to be good enough or capable enough of handling an autistic child but in the end, they ended up surprising themselves at what they were able to achieve. Of course, things change a lot when an autistic child switches from being a kid to a teenager and eventually to an autistic adult. Sure, as a parent, you might be used to it by now and have settled into a routine of how you go about things. However, it’s different from when you simply provided your son with the sport match twin quilt with pillow sham because he wanted it so badly. For adults that suffer autism, they also evolve in their needs, like everybody else.
Currently, there are over 88,000 adults that suffer from autism. They have to deal with regular people on a normal basis and thus, they would want the same desires as other people their age whether they actually fully understand the responsibility or not. For instance, one mother wrote about how his son, who’s becoming an adult and suffers from autism, that his son has showed signs that he wants to date and be in a relationship. Of course, the parent was happy but it was also nervewracking because she’s not sure how to go about it. All these things are important and need to be considered by the parent. Adults with autism need all the love and care as well as the regular things that normal people do. It’s important to always consider this.
