Your Child’s First Plane Ride

It’s my nephew, James’ first airplane ride on Sunday and my sister’s been asking me for tips on how to get him ready for it.  She said James has been so excited since the day he found out he’s joining mom and dad for a plane ride that he can’t stop thinking about planes all week! Come to think of it, he’s been fascinated with airplanes for a long time now that my sister even decorated his rooms with a pilot motif, and bought an airplane bedding set to go with the design.

I told my sister that James should be a “natural” by now and she doesn’t really need to worry about him being scared on his first plane ride.  That’s because she has prepared him for it, which is very important for parents to do when their child is about to take a long trip by plane for the first time. Especially with younger kids, it might help if you can show them books ith pictures of airplanes and emphasize that a plane ride isn’t really dangerous or scary.

I reminded my sister to bring toys or books that will keep James occupied during the trip. Bring plenty of liquieds and make sure to bring kiddie medicines for motion sickness. I also told her to visit this travel blog that gives more suggestions on how to handle your child’s first plane ride.

As parents, it’s our duty to introduce our kids to new and exciting life experiences. Having holidays and gonig on plane rides are one of the best adventures we could share with our kids. Make sure that your child’s plane ride will be a pleasant one, something he could look back to when he grows up.
