All I Want For Christmas is…
Little Michael turned 4 last December 10th and when I visited him the other night to give him my late gift, I asked him what he wants for a Christmas present. He immediately said, “I want a Dog!”. His mom, my friend Lucy gave me a wink, saying just play along and so I told him, “I’ll see what Santa thinks about that, ok?”. I then watched Lucy tuck him in and cover him with his wild animal comforter as he drifted onto dreamland.
Later, Lucy told me she’s not sure if she should get Michael a dog; she thinks he’s too young to have one. She’s worried that she may get the wrong dog for him and end up hurting him. I told her that her fears are valid. She said that sometimes he would even wander into the neighbor’s house to see their cute little puppy.
I remember reading on this blog that for kids below 8, an energetic puppy may be too much to handle. I reminded her also that it’s she who will eventually take care of the dog, not Michael. And she laughed to this, saying at the same time, maybe she’s the one who’s not ready for a dog, not Michael!
