Doubting Your Motherhood Skills

There is no denying the fact that it’s not easy to be a mother. There will be moments when you question your capability of giving your child everything that he needs and sometimes, especially when they become teenagers, you might think of yourself as a failure. Personally, there are times when I do feel like I have no control over my kids or that it’s hopeless to try and assert myself as a point of authority. Although kids are naturally defiant at some point, it can be very testing when it happens. Like for instance, there are times when my 10-year old acts up as a result of a simple request from me to fix his cool skate twin quilt with pillow sham or even just picking up his schoolbooks from the floor. As much as I dislike having to scold my kids, it’s tough not to when these times happen.

However, just when I started thinking that I have it tough, I came across this news where a child stowed away from home in the middle of the night, broke into their neighbors home, stole Christmas presents under the tree, and drank half a can of beer. Even though it’s absolutely wrong, you would think that this is something a teenager could do, but it was shocking to find out that the kid who did these things was only 4 years old! Apparently, the kid wanted to go to prison as well since he wanted to be with his dad who was incarcerated. It was shocking to hear this news and I could just imagine how the mother felt. I’m sure it feels terrible enough to find your kid gone in the middle of the night, but to find that he’s done these things at a young age, it can be purely heartbreaking.
