Do You Have to Abide By Color Rules for Kids?

It’s not all the time that you think about what color gift to give to your kids, nephews or nieces. Sometimes, without hesitation, you gravitate towards the pink stuff if you’re buying things for little girls while the obvious blue, signifies stuff you should be getting for boys. This was what I did when got my little girl a nice pink night light for her room. I thought it would look nice along with her pink ballet lessons valance . To my surprise when I showed it to her, she just gave me a quizzical look and said, “Pink again?” Two months ago she would have been ecstatic about this color, but now she seems less into pink and branching out into other colors. She recently exchanged her pink floor pillows for the dark blue ones in her brother’s room. Apparently, she convinced them that it would be nice to mix up the colors so they get a “nice contrast.” Then again, maybe my daughter is practicing her inner stylist.

Anyway, I never gave this much thought until I read about how two sisters boycotted this store simply because it created a gender bias by separating their store in pink and blue. Now that I think about it, maybe I should think twice now before I decide on which color items to get my little girl or my boys.
