Have You Outed Santa?

4204996368_6df27ef967_mWhen my neighbor’s eight year old daughter, who was in a mermaid’s phase last year, received a set of mermaids bedding collection for Christmas last year, it was then that she found out Santa was actually her parents. My neighbor relates that the little girl has probaby figured it out because she realized, only parents would actually think to give a gift like this to their children. Santa would probably choose a toy or something less lame in the eyes of an eight year old. I couldn’t help but smile and relate to her story.

My son has figured us out when he was about that same age, too. But it was only because the kids in his school has started talking about who Santa is really. So, when he asked me point blank, there was no way of hiding the fact. I also didn’t want him confuse anymore, so I fessed up. I do think that these fantasies are healthy, but only up to a point. When the children are a lot older, though….it’s harder to keep with the fantasy so you might just as well come out with the truth.

Eventually, the children will figure it out anyway. But I think it should be best that the truth come out from their own Santa. I mean, parents. Don’t you agree?
