Is the World Going to End in 2012?

It was an ordinary day, I was baking cookies for the kids since they managed to empty the cookie jar in less than a day after I placed the first batch of cookies inside. After I was done and stowed away several sheets for the next day or two, I brought some inside Michael’s room. I found all three of my children sitting on top of the out of this world printed rug in the room. Melinda and Kyle were sitting in front of Michael, all captivated by what he was saying. When I approached, cookies on hand, my little girl suddenly blurted out, “Mommy, we better prepare for the end of the world soon.” This caught me a bit off guard, but naturally, I had to make them understand that this was not going to happen anytime soon.

Apparently, Michael, was telling them about how the world is going to end two years from now, in 2012, because he saw it on TV. It took me some time before I actually managed to convince them that there was little chance about it happening for real, so it’s best if they don’t worry too much about it. I’m not sure if I was convincing enough, but I tried my best.  Although I may not know for sure whether there is any truth to this whole “end of the world business,” it is definitely something that I wish my children would not think too much about. Sometimes I wish I could curb down their access to television, although that’s an entirely different subject.
