Christmas Break with the Children: Hide the Remote!

I always love it when my children are on break, I get to spend time with them and get to know them a little bit better. They get to ask me questions and we get to bond over the things that we like to do. However, one thing I hesitate on when my children are on break is how they watch the TV. I know for a fact that whenever they get time off, the TV is sure to get overused. If they ever invented a talking TV, ours would be grumbling and complaining for the entire Christmas break. For instance, my ten year old recently asked permission if he could stay up late on Christmas eve. Although I wasn’t keen on it, it’s one of the few times that he asks, so I gave in. So he ended up dragging his under construction printed rug in the living room and proceeded to lie cross legged in front of the flat screen. When I woke up around 2am, I had to convince him to go to bed since it was so late. He still wanted to watch, but after a subtle threat about not getting gifts, he finally gave in.

I’ve always been cautious when it comes to what my children watch on the tube. There are simply too many things on TV that are inappropriate for children and I don’t want my kids to be catching them. Although, I know that I cannot regulate everything that they watch, I can certainly try. There’s also this great option about Smart TV, haven’t really checked it out just yet, but definitely will consider getting this for my kids.
