The Sean Goldman Story
For months, I’ve been following news about Sean Goldman and his dad, David. For years, David has sought for the safe return and custody of his child, Sean, who was somewhat “abducted” by her own mother and brought to Brazil. It was supposedly just a two week vacation but it ended in a huge court battle and strained the ties between the US and Brazil for some time. As it turned out, the mother filed for divorce and remarried while in Brazil, although she died during childbirth. When my husband and I were watching how Sean was finally returned after 5 years to his Dad, here in the US, we had no idea that our son, Michael, was standing in the corner listening to the news as well. He was waiting for me to help him put up his new army kid’s sign. Being a smart 10, year old, he asked us if that was even possible. To suddenly be taken away from your family and not returned even to your own father. We had to explain to him everything that happened. He pretty much got it, although from the look in his eyes there were still so many other questions in his head.
Anyway, I’m just glad that David managed to get his son back. Although I understand the plight of the family his ex-wife had in Brazil, it’s still wrong to deprive the real father of his rights. Hopefully the Goldman’s had a good Christmas and a great New Year as a family.
