Children and Handling Money

Last night, my daughter had her Christmas money all laid out on her dragonfly butterfly quilt and sham and she was busy trying to count them. I watched her do this so animatedly. She’s been very happy and excited, ever since I told her that I was going to bring her to the bank next week.

We are opening her a savings account and she probably deemed this too grown up and was proud of herself. I am glad she is showing interest. Of my kids, she has the one with the knack and interest for saving up and valueing pennies for rainy days. And I think that’s great because, stereotypical as this may sound, she’s going to be doing a lot of these when she marries and learns to budget later on.

With our oldest son, we started out too late trying to teach him to learn to value money. It’s fortunate though that the boy isn’t too loose with spending and has so far saved up a little in his own bank account.

But I really am proudest of my girl because, without any prodding, she took it upon herself to save her Christmas cash gifts. She also have saved up some of her allowance as well…I’m very amazed at her discipline.
