Fighting the Urge to Snack

If there’s one thing I’ve always tried getting my kids to stop doing, it’s to constantly ask me for snacks. I know that it’s tough to not snack at least twice a day. I find it hard myself especially when I was younger since my mom was constantly doing her thing in the kitchen and it was tough not to think about munching anything when you could clearly smell the home baked brownies coming from the kitchen. I honestly want my kids to be a little healthier, and although it’s tough to always watch what they eat, I do try. My husband has also noticed how I’ve been trying to cut back on giving the children too much snacks within the day. He approves of it since my daughter, Melinda, usually ends up eating a little less of her dinner even if she’s using his favorite mermaid’s personalized meal time plate set.

My fellow mother’s also seem to have the same problem. They also have trouble not serving snacks to their children throughout the day, that’s on top of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even our culture seems to be encouraging this habit. At almost every turn, you can see a vending machine filled with little snacks that you sometimes just can’t resist popping a few cents into. Sometimes, mothers simply don’t have much of a choice but to give in to the pressure and provide the children with the snacks that they want. As for me, I’m trying hard to minimize the snacks now as much as possible, hopefully it’s going to work and my kids will ultimately be able to live without snacking every couple of hours.
