Parenting Style: Different Strokes For Different Folks
I have a nephew that is so used to staying up late at night playing with his toys or messing up his musical bench seat with storage. His mother isn’t so particular with keeping a rigid sleep hour. That’s why the kid sometimes sleep at two in the morning. The crazy thing is he would need to wake up at six or seven for school the next day. I know what you’re thinking…it’s not healthy for the child.
When my nephew stayed with us for a couple of days, he wasn’t used to the rules in the house. All my children have to be in bed by 9 pm and I make sure that they get their eight hours of sleep well. He told his mother later on that it was no fun staying at his Aunts. I had to talk to my cousin-in-law about his odd waking hours, but the thing is, my cousin-in-law has her own way of raising her kids.
Don’t you just hate it? When you know that something isn’t right for the child, you can’t impose on it because you don’t want to overstep on someone else’s parental duties? While it’s true — different strokes for different folks — I just worry that my nephew is going to slack with school work because he doesn’t have the energy for it. I fervently hope my cousin was listening when I told her my concerns. Last I know, the boy is having problems with school, but she assured us it isn’t one that the child couldn’t handle. I really hope that that is true.
