Little Tricks for “Me” Time With Two Rowdy Kids At Home

With three kids to raise, two of them still in their grade school age, the stress level is definitely very high. It’s a good thing I have my eldest to help me with the two younger kids at times, especially with my husband on business travels. But when the eldest is at school or is spending his own “Me” time with friends, I am left with two of the most active kids ever.

They’re like cat and mouse, my youngest son and daughter. At this point, they share a room together and seemingly make it their goal to mess it up. I’d find my son’s newly placed classic sports twin sheet set disheveled or my daughter’s tiny princess cabinet in disarray, almost daily. It’s fun to hear them laughing and screaming alright but most days? I do feel like I’ve got the world’s rowdiest kids.

I have yet to find a way to make this work. This turning-the-bedroom-into-a-zoo, that these kids like to do all the time. So, I at least can relax and spend a little quality time with myself. I’ve been reading up and found that the trick to this is to allow kids to just let them play together and appreciate the fact that with their ages so close together, it can be a blessing. They make a big fine mess, with just the pair of them, but at least they have someone to play with and keep busy with. In the meantime, that they are busy, then I can squeeze in little things like checking email, taking a quick shower and the like.
