Snacking In Bed With the Kids

Chandra, one of my neighbors have always discouraged eating in bed.  But somehow she admits that she fails to follow through this with her kids, a set of twin boys of three and a half years old. So, she is left with cleaning all of the mess since the children aren’t old enough to laundry their sheets. Her son’s doggy and doggy twin quilt with pillow sham for example, has grape juice spill spots from last nights after-school snacking. The thing is, she also snacks in bed with them, she relates with guilt. It’s part of their family bonding.

So, she is asking for advise. She is seeking for an easy quick solution in the meantime that they’re still in the snacking-in-bed-stage.  I told her that there’s nothing easy and quick about it. She has to teach the children to eat properly and snack in the dining room.

But, as she insisted it was still impossible at this stage, I suggested that she was gonna have to pick out different kinds of after school snacks to munch in bed. Yogurts and pizza? Sounds delicious and nutritious alright, but this may not be a good idea as they’re obviously oily and messy. Crackers have crumbs, but at least they are easier to clean. Chips are the same too, but would she sacrifice nutrition for fun? I don’t know. It’s really her call. But those are some of the things I’ve suggested.

What about you? What would you have to suggest to this mom?
