Going Overboard with Child Safety
There is no doubt that parents only want the best for their children. However, it is also very true that a parent can go overboard just trying to protect his or her child. Sometimes, this can be quite aggravating on the child and the parent might not even realize that they are doing something wrong. This happened to my friend’s sister. She went all out in trying to protect her child that she even threw out her kid’s princess table & 2 chair set, just to make sure that it won’t harm her toddler. Of course, this doesn’t include the radical interior change that she had to do, just to make her home “child proof.”
Although it’s a good thing to keep a child safe, sometimes, you have to think about your other children. There are times when she doesn’t let her children out of the house simply because it’s a degree colder or hotter than it was. She always makes sure she knows what they are doing, what they are eating, what they are playing etc. As a parent myself, I know she means no hard to her children, however, there are psychological impacts on the child if you are simply too protective to a point that you become controlling of what they do and how they do it all the time. It creates a mark on your child and lessens his strive for independence. Hence, as a parent, it’s important to balance it out and learn how to step back.
