Vaccinations: Good or Bad?
My toddler niece’s vaccination is in near completion. She hates going to the doctor’s clinic a lot and I would imagine no kid likes this idea. I remember my little boy soiling his Surfing USA twin sheet set with tears and saliva, bawling and begging we don’t take him to the doctors when he was still younger. But we’ve also completed his vaccinations.
Some parents, on the other hand, are opposed to getting their kids vaccinated. You may wonder why, but vaccination has been getting a lot of bad press lately. It’s been linked to be the cause of children developing brain damage which can lead to autism, among other effects. I have no significant data to verify these claims but there have been studies done which has resulted in a significant improvement of the drugs and vaccines administered to kids. But even so, some parents are understandably still opposed to this.
So, if you as a parent refuse to get your child vaccinated, does that make you less of a parent? Does that make you irresponsible?
In the days of our grandmothers and grandfathers, vaccination didn’t used to be a big deal. Today though, kids get plenty of injections and boosters from all kinds of diseases.
In the end, it’s really a matter of choice. I don’t think that if a parent refuses for their children, they are significantly bad. The child’s health is one of the parents’ main concern, of course. And any concerned parent will make sure to take care of that.
