Chores Yo Love To Do With Kids

Screen shot 2010-02-18 at 3.32.07 PMAs a parent, one of the things I enjoy doing with my younger kids the most is baking them snacks. I’d make waffles, cookies and simple cakes. The kids would even join me and mix their own batter. It’s a messy, noisy process…which makes cleaning up after this mess one of the chores I enjoy the least doing. Sometimes I would find this mess days later, with traces of the batter in one of the kids’ cool skate queen quilt shams.

But I don’t mean that as a complain. I can’t stand the mess but I do enjoy these precious moments with them. It’s fun and they learn something from it.

There are other tasks, however, that I don’t suppose I can do alone with the kids. For instance, I can never enjoy taking a swim with them, because I don’t know how to swim myself. I also am no fun at doing projects and the like because I do not have the creative initiative for stuff like that.

I came across this article with a similar dilemma, in that this parent wonders if there are task we need to delegate to other people since we’re no good at it. I’m all open for that actually and recognize that we make the most of becoming good parents, but we are not supermen or superwomen.
