Sounding Like a Parent

No matter how hard I try, I cannot deny the fact that I am starting to sound like my own mother. When I was growing up and sometimes heated arguments with my folks were unavoidable, I swore that I would never be or sound like my mother when it came to my children. However, as time has proven, it’s actually not that easy. The other day as I was showing my little girl how she should fix her mermaids full sheetset every time she wakes up. She suddenly looked at me and said that I “sound like Grandma.” At first, I just shrugged it off, but then later on, I realized that I have been acting and sounding more like my own mother. From the, “You better not cry, or else I’m really going to give you something to cry about,” or the “Because I said so…”

Although there’s nothing wrong with my mother, I just didn’t think that I would ever end up using those same words or lines and dictate them to my children one day. I guess, I just have to make sure that I won’t end up hurting my children’s feelings whenever I try and teach them something. I hope everything will work out fine in the end and that they’ll also learn many things from me.
