Childhood Anxiety and the Doctor’s Office
When it comes to my daughter, a visit to the doctor’s office usually is filled with drama. She hates it so much and gets really clingy. She would also demand we bring her Flowers For Hanna Shaped Pillow along, perhaps to draw comfort.
Her last doctor visit was pretty horrendous because I had her scheduled for pox shots and knowing she was going to get an injection, she started crying and howling as soon as we stepped out of the car going into the doctor’s office. She was unconsolable that I wonder how we got through the whole ordeal with success.
I was a bit embarrassed as well because I had this feeling that her doctor and the attendants there were getting very irritated by may daughter’s tantrum. I was also a bit concerned because this is a doctor we’re seeing for the first time, as my daughter’s usual pediatrician was out of the country. And I wasn’t so sure if this was the reason why we seemed to have gotten such a cold reception from them.
I guess I was also feeling a bit disappointed in myself because I had little time to prepare for this when we went to the clinic. I’m gonna have to take note of this the next time we go to the doctor’s office and prepare my daughter emotionally for what she is to expect.
