Breaking the Thumbsucking Habit

Most mothers are perplexed on how they can stop their children from thumbsucking. Although I personally don’t have this problem with my kids, my sister has one with my little nephew, Jaden. One time, it worried her so much that she called me so early in the morning when I was fixing the boys cowboy twin sheet set. She sounded so tired and she said that she’s tried almost every approach just to get her child to stop thumbsucking, but he just won’t stop. She’s worried because an acquaintance of hers told her that it can develop into some sort of disorder especially if they grow older and still not bother to stop.

Moreover, she’s worried that Jaden will be teased when he starts attending class. Kids will not understand it and they only see the things that are different or weird for them and thumbsucking obviously, isn’t the norm. I will be accompanying her to see a specialist so that she can properly teach Jaden how to stop thumbsucking for good without really making him feel bad about it. I know that it’s going to take some time. Just like how adults have difficulty stopping themselves from nail biting, children will find it even more tough to simply stop sucking their thumb.
