Encouraging Kids to Read
The Time To Read Revolving Bookcase for our little girl that we ordered online has arrived the other day. And what timing it is, as one of the things we’re going to have to start doing during the breaks and vacations that the kids are going to get from school, is to get them involved with reading. I don’t aim to raise bookworms or nerds with this. I just want them to learn to love books and reading so that they grow up well-educated.
The plan of attack is to spend at least an hour or two with the kids reading their favorite stories. The stories will all have to be chosen by them and they can pick anything they like. This is going to be a fun task, not a chore that will be forced on the children.
My husband and I want to raise a household where it’s reading friendly so much so that we have actually invested in a small library for the house. We have also encouraged the kids to actually appreciate the public library, even with all the computers and the internet around. Once a week, we visit the place to browse through or at least borrow one from their collection.
Are you raising your household to be reader friendly? What are the things you do to encourage this?
