Too Much TV, Not Enough Parenting

Lazying around my son’s bed with his Cowboys Queen Sheet Set as I was waiting for him to fall asleep, I was watching this feature on why it’s not a good idea to have children keep a television in their bedroom. There was apparently a research that links emotional problems to it. The research said that by the time a child who has been exposed to so much junk on television reaches the fourth grade, he would have to deal with poor grades, poor health and anxiety attacks. Too much TV is bad for kids, we all know that.

Then again, I believe that this fact also lies so much on the parents or whoever is watching over the kids. Obviously, my children enjoy their television in the bedroom. It is a source of entertainment and amusement for them. Only, I try my best to regulate their viewing times. At best, the TV set is only on for about 2-4 hours in the afternoon, right after they take their naps. And I strictly do not allow television watching during school nights.

With three kids, and one passed fourth grade and who has been doing really well in school, I can say that so far, what I’ve been doing is working.

I do believe too much TV is bad, but what’s worse is parents allowing their kids to be so immersed in it.
