Would you let 7-Year Olds Carry Cellphones?
I found my daughter in her room yesterday afternoon sitting on her Princess Table & 2 Chair Set, pretending it was her office desk or something. She was acting like she was making calls and giving orders to her toys, which is very common behavior for children their age. Role playing is both a tool for learning and entertainment for them. I was happily watching her do this until I realized she was actually talking on my cellphone, and has dialed this for real!
I do not know how she got hold of it and I wasn’t even sure she could operate this gadget but as I soon found out, she had been talking to my mother for nearly forty-five minutes. My mother, all the while, was thinking I allowed her to use it. There goes the free minutes I was trying to save up for other uses!
Are your kids quite a whiz with gadgets and cellphones? I see little seven year olds with their own units and I wonder if this is just clever marketing ploy by cellphone companies. Sure, cellphones can be a safety measure. Most parents make use of it now to track their kids or keep them under the radar. But I don’t necessarily agree that kids as young as my daughter should actually own her piece.
