What Happens When Your 7-Year Old Sexy Dances?
The other day, I almost had a heart attack when I caught my little girl sexy dancing atop her beautiful dragonflies queen sheet set. Although I know she was just imitating her favorite star (Miley Cyrus!!) it was still a bit unnerving and upsetting to see her dance in a titillating way. Somehow, I felt a stab of guilt as well since I was the one who encouraged her to “be like Miley” when she grows up. I meant that she should become a singer and follow her dreams and NOT dance that way when she still can’t even fully comprehend the multiplication table. I talked to my daughter about it and she said that “Miley dances that way.” I’m not blaming Miley Cyrus or anything since I know it is my responsibility to raise my child, however, it makes me feel that I can’t even let my kids watch any of these kid/pre-teen programs anymore simply because of the content that they have.
Although I’ve tried explaining to my child that her sexy dancing isn’t very attractive for her and that she should understand the difference, I know that she is still a kid. She will imitate what she sees without really understanding the reasoning behind it most of the time. Nevertheless, this has definitely left me shaken and hopefully I can fully make my daughter understand her actions.
