Who Comes First During Calamities?
For parents, the safety of their children is always a top priority, however, would they prioritize their children over their spouse if there is a disaster? The truth is that most parents would save their children first before their spouse. This might seem unfair, in fact my own husband thinks that he would try to save all of us (including me) if in case something like horrible happens. He was helping me fix Michael’s town road full/queen quilt with 2 shams one afternoon when I brought this topic up.
Of course, being the ever “logical one,” he was quick to point out that troubling circumstances that require immediate action would definitely effect the judgment of a person. For most men, kids are often helpless so they seek to save the children first before probably going back for their spouse. It’s instinct that kicks in at some point. Of course, this doesn’t mean that there is a lesser desire to save the spouse or anything like that. There have been cases though where husbands were often remorseful for not being able to save their spouse during a dangerous situation. Some even are so remorseful that they admit they would rather have saved their spouse than their children. This might seem heartless but I guess every person is different.
