What is the Father’s Role?
Almost all of us are familiar with the roles that mother’s play in a child’s life. However, what about the father’s role when it comes to child rearing? This subject came about because as I was helping out my 7 year old son in putting up his sport match valance, he was asking me what dad’s have to do. He says that he was confused because I always do all the work and dad only comes home, eats, plays with them, talk to me and sleep. Although this is somewhat true since my husband has a full time job and I’m currently homebased, it was still something that got me thinking what roles father’s play into their child’s life.
Children see things differently, they only understand things in their own perspective. I had to explain to my son that dad has to go to work to provide for us and take care of us. I also talked to my husband about it and it seems he feels a tad guilty that he’s not spending enough time with the kids. Although the role of the father has changed a lot since before, there are still plenty of dad’s out there that mainly function like before. They still operate in the traditional role of the provider and the pillar of the family. I just hope that my sons and daughter understand the situation.
