Being Overly Cautious as a Parent

Over the weekend, my daughter went on her first sleepover at her friend, Julie’s house. She was very excited and made sure that she brought her Tara stripe pillow with her since she still can’t sleep without it. Although my husband and I agreed to the sleepover, we still cannot help but be nervous about it. On the one hand, I think she’s too young but I think she can handle it. Besides, it’s not like it’s she’s going to be gone for long, just over the weekend. Oh and did I mention that her friend Julie, lives only one house apart from ours? I guess, it’s impossible to not let parent mode kick in whenever my children are not by my side.

There’s no denying that most parents are a little overprotective when it comes to their children. However, no matter how much we regulate our children’s behavior and monitor their whereabouts 24/7, there will be instances that will be completely beyond our control. Hence, it’s important for parents to understand that they can only go so far when it comes to protecting their children. In the end, especially as the child grows older, this parental control will become lesser and lesser until it’s your own child’s turn to worry about these things towards their own children.
