Keeping Noisy Children Out

When my husband suggested that we go out for a nice family dinner, I never thought that we would have such a hard time. It went a lot like tucking in my little girl in her lady bug yard twin quilt with pillow sham; it was a struggle. First, we had to look for the right restaurant to eat in. We were going for a nice, quiet and moderately priced restaurant downtown. As we ordered our food, and were waiting to eat, my little girl started bickering with her big brother. When my little girl gets mad, she starts screaming. This is pretty much any mother’s nightmare. Having a child screaming in a restaurant filled with folks who are trying to enjoy their dinner. I knew that this might happen and sure enough it wasn’t long after she started shouting that the manager politely asked me to step out with my child. Although I was generally embarrassed, a bit furious but mostly just ashamed as I took my little girl (still screaming) outside.

It took me about 30 minutes to get her to calm down. She was really upset at her brother but I had to make sure she understood that a restaurant is not like at home. She has to keep her manners. In the end, I decided to just take out my portion of the dinner since I pretty much lost my appetite trying to calm down my kid. Although I’m not really blaming restaurants for banning children that are “noisy,” I do wish they are more considerate. We can only control our children to some extent. As mentioned in this article that I read, children “don’t come will volume control.”
