How Far Do You Know?
Teasing and bullying has become a common and constant situation for a lot of children. The sad fact is that most parents don’t even take notice that it’s happening to their child or that their children are doing these atrocious things to other children. The other day, my son came home all depressed and pouting. He barely touched his dinner and didn’t talk much. When I asked him, he said that his classmate told him that the kiddie-ups rock-a-my-baby rocking horse that he was playing with made him look like a girl. It’s actually his sister’s and he sometimes plays with it. Unfortunately, I had a hand in this thing by posting pictures of him and his sister getting the new toy and playing with it. Although they are pretty young, barely enough to read complicated words, they do have access to Facebook and the internet.
I felt so bad because he said that he was called names by the other children. Bullying can actually have more serious consequences than you think. I read recently that another teen has committed suicide after a horrible “prank” goes wrong. Apparently, he was outed by a room mate and another person online. This pushed the young teen over the edge and he committed suicide. It’s a horrible thing and I’m not sure whether it will do anything to point fingers. However, it is a tragedy both for the parents and the teens involved.
