Dealing with Teens
For some reason, it’s always tough to let children understand that you have a life too. Take for instance, my sister’s daughters. It seems that recently, when she joined the whole Facebook crowd and tried to add her daughter. She was explicitly denied by her teen daughter when she tried “befriending” her on Facebook. Now, this might seem like no big deal, but of course, any parent would be hurt. Teens these days are just different. Even if you spent years and years, tucking them in at night in their my rainbow queen sheet set; there comes a time when they will definitely still deny you.
Of course, it’s just a social networking site and besides, he or she might not want you to be nagging her in front of her friends or peers. I think every teen does go through this stage and whether we like it or not, I think most of us also experienced this. Whether we like it or not, we often resented having our moms drive us to school every now and then, hoping that our friends weren’t around when we were out with the family. I guess, the only difference now is that there are social networking sites that add another avenue on ways that our children can “deny” us. In my case, my kids are not that grown up yet so I’m relishing the moment when they still ask me to help in almost everything that they do. As much I wouldn’t want that to change, I am trying to prepare myself for the inevitable.
