The Different “Sick” Personalities
When I say “sick” I don’t mean gross, I mean simply having some sort of ailment at a particular time. It’s true that most of us whenever we get sick, we often develop or have this certain type of personality. Some of us are absolutely cranky all the time while others are so placid or lethargic that they don’t care about anything. It’s much the same for children as well. When my son recently developed the flu, he was all down and quite needy. As I neatly tucked him into his all state full sheet set, he was always calling me to check on him every couple of minutes. I’d be out in the kitchen trying to prepare lunch and I’d hear him calling for me using the two way radio we have.
There’s no doubt that my little boy has the needy personality type when he’s sick. Although this is normal for most children, it’s not exactly something that every child does. Anyhow, my daughter, on the other hand, is a bit more independent even when she’s sick. She’s the type of who asks a lot about the medicine that she’s taking. What it’s for, what it will do to her and whethe it tastes good or bad. She’s the more objective type and would even volunteer to take her temperature every couple of hours to make sure she’s feeling better. There are also children that make a big deal out of nothing. They complain and complain and feel that all your time has to be spent by their side until they get better. As a parent, you have to be flexible enough to be able to handle all sorts of things that your children throw at you.
