Overparenting Your Child

Recently, a lot of mothers have been expressing their opinion about helicopter parenting and how it has become something fairly common. Of course, overparenting your child is equally troublesome. Parents like to provide everything for their child, like maybe that rock-a-my-baby bench seat w/ storage or that special backpack that they want for school. On the other hand, by providing everything for their child, parents often think that they have a right to decide on everything that their child does. This includes who they hang out with, where they go and sometimes what they should wear. Teens and pre-teens have dubbed this helicopter parenting because their parents are always “hovering” about.

On the flipside of things, parents often feel stuck and imprisoned at the thought that they would need to be there for every move that their child does. Even though they don’t realize that everything is actually in their control, instead of feeling like driving the feel. For them it’s like driving the wheel at gunpoint; they simply have no choice but to provide for their child. If you find yourself feeling this way, then take a step back and re-evaluate your parenting ways. Try and think about what makes you feel this way and whether it’s because you’ve been imposing these things on yourself or not. It’s best to evaluate your parenting ways once in awhile. Keep in mind that it’s not just your child that’s getting affected but you will also be going through the consequences.
