What comes from Moth Balls?

Moth Balls is a pest repellant that is widely used by most people in the Philippines particularly in rural areas since it is very effective in repelling common insects that usually lives in the cabinets and corridors of wooden houses. I can still remember when I visited the house of my nanny way back when I was small. The smell of the mothballs was so strong that it made me vomit and feel nauseated when I mistakenly open one of their cabinets. Moth balls are made up of naphthalene which are toxic to humans and prolong exposure to the object can cause vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, jaundice and a rare condition known as hemolytic anemia, which is commonly seen in newborn cases and small children according to hospital reports due to parent’s lack of knowledge regarding the toxic substance. Because they try to wrap their newborn and small children in blankets that had been stored in naphthalene moth balls for quite a while which if this practice would not be stopped or banned as soon as possible could lead to more newborns and small children suffering from Hemolytic Anemia, causing massive jaundice, leading to brain damage or even death to newborn infants and children.
