8×8 Rule
Another idea that would be effective for your child so that he can remember to drink lots of fluids everyday is by water intake “8 x 8 rule”. Drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day. Or the rule could also be stated as “Drink eight 8 ounce glasses of fluid a day,” as all fluids count toward the daily total. Although the approach really isn’t supported by scientific evidence, many people use this easy to remember rule as a guideline for how much water and other fluids should be taken by everyone. Emphasize to your child that our body needs water everyday. Because everyday we lose water through our breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages, foods that contain water like fruits and vegetables or simply drink a lot of water. The adequate daily requirements for drinking water for your child which ranges at 9-13 years of age about 8 cups for boys and about 7 cups for girls.
