I have found this interesting article that talks about parents stealing from children the opportunity for him to be independent in some ways. What are this ways? This ways are doing everything for the child when in fact he/she alone can do it by herself. Like for example you know that the child is capable of cleaning his own locker in school and you as a parent do this on his part. If other children will see that they will perceive that the child is lazy or incapable. Give your child the chance to enhance his independent skills so that he/she will grow up to become more independent and not lazy. Train up the child in the way he should go so that when he is old he will not depart from it. Are you familiar with this verse? This is found in the bible and proven to be true. Even if you are not that religious this will still apply to all the children.
